Today, there is a whopping 5,000 known species of rust on plants.

Hemileia vastatrix is a fungus that causes coffee leaf rust which is devastating to susceptible coffee plantations. It has largely decreased the quantity and quality of yield produced by diseased coffee plants. One of the earliest record of its impact was in the 1800s, when it has destroyed Sri Lanka and Java coffee plantations.  Isolate the infected plants and destroy them. This is to reduce the sources of spores that will infect other plants around.

 Clear the entire area from debris to prevent rust from spreading.

 Remember that water can also spread spores so you may want to avoid splashing water onto the plants’ leaves.

 Make sure you always disinfect tools you use on plants.
